When the Day Takes a Detour - March 20, 2025

When the Plan Changes...

Today was supposed to be a mix of admin work, warehouse organization, and truck packing. Spoiler alert: none of that happened as planned.

Instead, the day became a deep dive into admin tasks. I started at home—got tax documents over to my accountant, followed up with clients, researched stake drivers, and tackled some upcoming event issues. Once I was in it, I couldn’t pull myself away. Honestly, it felt good. Chipping away at those lingering tasks quieted that creeping event anxiety. Sometimes, the best way forward is just… sitting still and catching up.

Mid-Month Financial Check-In

I finally did something I always put off—checked in on the numbers. Mid-month, here’s where things stand:

• MTD Revenue: ~$10,000

• Net Income: ~$2,500

• Signed Contracts / Events: 13

QuickBooks is officially caught up (for now). But man—why was I a deadline machine at my old job, yet struggle to create any real routine as a business owner? SMH. That discipline gap hits hard sometimes. Still, today was progress.

Client Touchpoints – Magnets, Finally

Another win—I mailed out refrigerator magnets to a few past clients. It’s simple, but one of those “why didn’t I do this sooner” moves. Printed about 500. Next round, I’ll add a custom QR code to track engagement. Should’ve done that from the jump, but hey—next iteration.

Evening Networking – ARA Georgia Event

Wrapped the day with a networking event in Acworth. The drive? Brutal at that hour. But once there, it was solid—connected with pros I depend on in this industry. One miss? Forgot to grab the sales contact at the venue (facepalm). Adding “get key contacts” to my future event checklist ASAP.

The speaker was from a staffing company focused on equipment-side recruiting. Not my lane, but still interesting. Always good hearing what challenges others face.

Closing Thoughts

Today didn’t go as planned—but sometimes that’s the job. The hidden work—the catch-up days—keeps everything moving. A few wins in the bag and some notes for next time. Forward we go.
