The Day That Wouldn’t Sit Still - April 1, 2025
What was supposed to be a chill admin day turned into forklift chaos, surprise deliveries, and a networking win
Hey Future Owner,
The Day I Planned vs. The Day I Got
I started the day thinking it would be light. Dropped off my personal vehicle at the mechanic and headed home to knock out some admin work. Easy, right? Not quite.
Surprise Deliveries and a Dead Forklift
By noon, I finally got the call to pick up my car. I rushed over, grabbed it, and went straight to the warehouse where things were already getting interesting.
An unexpected delivery of white fans showed up — and with the floor already cluttered, I had to move things around quickly. Chairs are coming soon too, so I tried to get ahead of it. Mid-cleanup, the forklift ran out of propane, which meant another rushed trip — this time, to refuel.
Chasing Opportunity With a High Peak Frame
Next, I spent time setting up a 15x15 high peak frame for a potential client who’s asking for a lighting-only setup. It's a request outside our usual offerings, but honestly, it's a niche I think has legs.
The tricky part? Their expectations don’t quite match the budget. Still, I’d love to land it. The job is scheduled for an already packed weekend, but it would be great for photos and testing a new angle for the business.
Karate Missed, Emails Hit
After racing through the warehouse, I tried to take my kid to karate. Didn’t make it in time. Back home, I thought I’d have a breather — just a few minutes to reset. Nope. More quotes, more calls, right as I was trying to walk out the door again.
Ending Strong with NACE
The final stop was a NACE networking event — and I’m so glad I went. Of all the groups I’ve been attending, NACE has definitely been the most valuable.
This one was hosted at TLC Rents, a friendly competitor with a very different inventory. They handle things like décor, tabletop, and big tents — areas we don’t touch (unless, of course, you - the future owner - decide to one day). I connected with a bunch of people and left with a full inbox of follow-ups. TLC is now officially on my list of go-to referrals.
Big Picture
This wasn’t the day I planned for, but it was productive in all the right ways. Lots of movement, a few headaches, and a handful of seeds planted for future opportunities.
