Super Bowl Sunday Wasn't a Day Off—Here's What Got Done - February 9, 2025

Balancing work and play, locking in deposits, and getting my books in order—January's recap and key takeaways

Super Bowl Sunday Hustle & Business Update

Most people treat Super Bowl Sunday as a day off—but not me! As long as I have a device, internet, and leads coming in, I’m on it.

QuickBooks & Tax Prep

I spent the morning getting my QuickBooks in order. That’s right—I’m officially reconciled and (hopefully) ready to file taxes.

January Business Performance

  • Signed & Executed Projects – January felt slow, but we still had 5 events totaling almost $4K.

  • Revenue – Took in a little over $10K, including deposits for future events. Last year? Just $3K.

  • Net Income – Took a $1K loss (before counting the $2K I paid myself).

Standout Expenses & Adjustments

  • COGS (Cost of Goods Sold) – Made up 60% of income, thanks to white flooring from SnapLock and two clear-top 15x15 high-peak tents from Central.

  • Contract Labor – Significantly lower this time. I had been classifying my own pay as contract labor, but reclassifying it is a headache. Lesson learned! Now it’s considered an Owner’s Withdraw, which unfortunately doesn’t show up in the profit and loss statement.

  • Vehicle Expenses – A hefty 20% of income, largely due to a spike in insurance premiums (paid upfront in January). Hoping this smooths out.

Marketing & Lead Adjustments

  • Paused a Google Ads campaign for chair and table rentals—because getting leads for 10 chairs at a time was driving me nuts.

  • Sent out estimates, followed up with leads, and even secured a deposit for a dance floor setup in June.

Final Thoughts

January had ups and downs, but progress is progress. Today was a good day.
