Snow Days and Strategy: Building for the Future - January 21, 2025
How a Quiet Day Became an Opportunity for Growth
Hey Future Owner,
Today was another slow day in the rental business, but it was still productive in its own way. Here’s what went down:
Snow Day Productivity
School was canceled due to incoming snow, which meant no actual jobs on the schedule. I took the opportunity to head to the warehouse and unbox a few cocktail tables for an upcoming order. We’re now up to:
15 30" cocktail tables
4 36" cocktail tables
Big Quotes, Big Nerves
I’m currently working on some quotes for larger projects, including a one-day event in April valued at $25K. While it’s exciting, it’s also nerve-racking. If it gets booked, I’ll need to invest in additional inventory to fulfill the order. Thankfully, there’s plenty of notice, so I’m cautiously optimistic about pulling it off.
Rescheduled Events
We had a school delivery of 14 tables and 140 chairs (including setup) rescheduled for Thursday. Since this is a recurring customer, I allowed the cancellation without any issues. Relationships like this are worth maintaining, even if cancellations disrupt the schedule temporarily.
New Delivery Charge for Partner Venues
I’ve added a new inventory item to Goodshuffle: “Partner Venue Delivery.” This replaces our standard delivery charge of $50 + $2.50/mile each way with a flat $3 per mile for venues where we have direct relationships with management.
The goal is to incentivize venues to book us more frequently. I’ve already quoted one venue using this rate, reducing their delivery cost from $125 to $76 each way. Unfortunately, they didn’t book, but I’ll continue refining the strategy to see how it performs.
Content Update: MahJong Blog Post
I created another blog post focused on MahJong tournaments, highlighting our card tables. The aim is to drive more traffic to the site and promote this inventory. While blog traction is still slow—it’s been less than a month since they went live—I’m optimistic it will pick up with time.
Looking Ahead
Even during slow days, there’s progress to be made. Whether it’s preparing inventory, refining pricing strategies, or creating content, every little step brings us closer to growth. Here’s to making the most of each day, snow or shine.
Until next time,
Ramon
