How I Underpriced a Condo Pickup and What I’m Doing About It
Hey Future Owner,
Condo Job Recap: Easy Work, Missed Opportunity
Today was light on the action, but still worth noting. The only job on the board was a pickup from a condominium project we started yesterday. Nothing wild—just 43 chairs and 6 round tables.
Here’s how the numbers landed:
Total Revenue: $442.20
Job-Related Costs: $157.00
Contribution Margin: $285.00 (64%)
Margins were decent, but this one stung a little. I didn’t charge for portage, and I should’ve. The client mentioned she was getting quotes around $2,000—which makes sense given the setup. It wasn’t a massive job, but the logistics made it annoying: tall dock (no ramp yet), solo operation, a winding path through elevators just to deliver the goods.
Lesson learned: just because a job feels light doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be priced accordingly.
The Other Stuff: Business as Usual
Outside of the pickup, it was a standard day in the operator’s chair—answering phones, sending quotes, keeping the engine running.
Closing Thoughts
Every slow day still teaches something. Today’s reminder? Don’t undervalue effort just because the job looks small on paper. And yes, I’m finally putting that ramp on the list.
