Sometimes the universe throws in extra stairs just to test your patience
I woke up thinking today was going to be smooth sailing—two jobs, the truck already packed, and a decent head start. Of course, that was before waiting around for subrented items to arrive, making a run to Home Depot for more totes, and swinging by Harbor Freight for dollies. Somewhere between cutting string lights and preplanning for tomorrow, the “quick” start of my day turned into a whole production.
The Tire Saga
On my way out, I noticed the truck tire looking a little too low on air, as usual. I finally stopped at a shop to have it checked. Turns out, the inside tire was bald. Or so I thought! I didn’t have time to replace it right then, so I promised to come back after my deliveries. A little nerve-wracking, but the show had to go on.
First Stop Temptation
The first drop-off was blessedly close to home. Just tables, chairs, and cocktail tables for a repeat client. Honestly, I considered calling it a day right then and there—my couch was calling—but I rallied and kept going.
Second Stop Curveball
The next job was only 15 minutes away, but came with a surprise: stairs. Lots of them. The client also assumed setup was included. I stood my ground at first, then decided to overdeliver just a little. Five tables made the trip downstairs and got set up, but the chairs? No way. Too many trips for one person. To my surprise, the client was thrilled anyway—tip + a thank-you email later. Almost made me wish I’d gone all in with the chairs. Almost.
Back to the Shop
After finishing deliveries, I returned to the tire shop and lucked out—next in line. $270 later, the truck had a brand-new tire, and I had peace of mind. When they showed me the old one, I couldn’t believe I’d been driving around on it. Not only was it bald, it was worn down to the threads (literally), with chunks missing—it’s a miracle it didn’t blow earlier. No wonder the other tire looked so deflated. It was working overtime.
Admin + Warehouse Grind
The rest of the day was a blend of admin and warehouse work: sending quotes, marketing meetings, and pulling gear for tomorrow. By the end, I was completely drained, but at least everything’s in motion for the next round.
Until next time
