Learning on the fly and fighting through the late-night grind

I knew today was going to stretch me, but I didn’t expect it to stretch this much. One tent, one job, and still it managed to feel like a marathon. By the time I dragged myself back to the warehouse, I had to push past the exhaustion just to make sure tomorrow wouldn’t start in chaos.

Taking on the Keder Tent

Today’s main event was a 30x30 keder tent. This was only my second time working with this style, and to be honest, I’m still not in love with it. I don’t even own the tent—this was a collaboration with a friendly competitor.

In hindsight, I probably should’ve just referred the client out since the only thing under it was lighting. But I decided to look at it as an opportunity to get hands-on practice. The install dragged to about 3–3.5 hours, and we were definitely scrambling along the way. Still, I walked away a little more familiar with the process than when I started—and hopefully with at least some profit to show for it.

Warehouse Reset

After that install, I got back to the warehouse thinking the day was finally done. Nope. I had to preload for tomorrow’s event, which meant shaking off the tiredness and getting everything staged and ready.

And just when I thought I could call it, I opened my laptop to find about 20 emails waiting for me. Nothing like admin work sneaking in at the tail end of an already long day.

Reflection

If nothing else, today was a reminder that sometimes the work you don’t love is still worth doing—either because you’re building skill, strengthening relationships, or just proving to yourself that you can push through. That’s not glamorous, but it’s part of the business.

Until next time
