September 12, 2025 – Daily Recap

Hustle, headaches, and a little bit of humor

Today was one of those days where the business tested me from every angle — logistics, clients, profits, and patience — but we came out the other side with wins stacked on wins.

Kiddie Chairs & Costly Tables
We started the morning with a 20x20 tent setup and, for the first time, rented out our little red kid’s chairs. Cute milestone, right? The not-so-cute part was me driving an hour to sub-rent two kid’s tables because we didn’t have them in stock. Between buying the chairs and sub-renting the tables, the numbers on this one are probably going to look ugly. TBD, but let’s just say it’s not my most profitable idea to date.

The Floor Is… Not Lava, Just Bendy
Next stop: laying down a 20x20 Ikadan subfloor with no tent. Honestly, I was nervous. This flooring bends a bit, and I wasn’t sure if the clients were expecting a dancehall-style hardwood or just something flat to walk on. Luckily, their yard was flat as can be, and the shims I brought for backup stayed in the truck.

Here’s the kicker: the setup took only 30 minutes, and the rental price was higher than one of our tents. That’s a win...and food for thought for me. The clients, however, were a trip. They nitpicked every price, didn’t want the full backyard lit up because of cost, yet we pulled up to a mini-mcmansion with a luxury car in the driveway. It seems like it’s always the wealthy ones pinching pennies — that never fails.

The A-Team Comes Through
We closed the day strong with a late afternoon setup. Three-man crew, including yours truly, which meant we were running at A-team level. We knocked out a 20x60 tent with concrete blocks plus two 10x20 pop-ups in under two hours. Smooth, efficient, and a huge relief given how much time this client had already taken in planning.

The cherry on top? The job site was only 10 minutes from my house. I may or may not have “strategically encouraged” the guys to drive themselves so I could just roll straight home. That said, it wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows — I’ll need to come back tomorrow to set up tables and chairs, plus I had to sub-rent a generator for the first time. Still, I’m excited to see the profit numbers. Days like this make me wonder if all this running around is worth the price of admission.

Until next time
