One Job, One Wake-Up Call - April 18, 2025

When Simple Jobs Aren’t So Simple

Tent-only pickups usually feel like a win.
Today’s job was a clean 20x40 (split into two 20x20s), with zero extras—no tables, chairs, lights, or concrete. Normally, that’s the kind of work I prefer. But this one came with a twist.

We’d already made one failed pickup attempt the day before because the client ghosted us. That meant an extra round trip… and extra payroll. And when I crunched the numbers?

  • Total Revenue: $1,406

  • Job-related Costs: $535

  • Contribution Margin: $871 (62%)

On paper, not terrible. But in reality? Kinda brutal. That margin doesn't factor in the extra drive or day of labor. It’s one of those “looks good in QuickBooks, stings in real life” moments.

The rest of the day was quieter.
I got through emails, sent out a handful of quotes, and knocked out some warehouse organization. A reset I didn’t know I needed.

Closing Thoughts

This job was a good reminder that even the “easy ones” carry hidden costs. Logistics matter, and so does client communication. Going forward, I might rethink how we handle unresponsive customers—because the little inefficiencies add up fast.
