The job’s done... but the check’s still out

Today felt like the last lap of a marathon. We wrapped up the school event that started Thursday night, and it’s wild to see how much went into it. Three days, multiple site visits, sub rentals, and a lot of sweat equity. All for an event that lasted maybe 2 hours at best!

The Final Breakdown
We rolled up this morning to take down the 20x60 tent — blocks, straps, and all. Two hours later, it was down and loaded. That wrapped up a total of 10.5 hours on site for this one job. Between coordinating with the school, sub-renting gear, and managing the logistics, it was a lot of moving parts for one event.

Thanks to AI, I was able to dig into the profitability numbers before the day ended. Honestly, I was nervous at first — sub rentals can eat margins fast. But after all costs were tallied (labor, drive time, rentals, everything), we came out with almost a 70% margin. That’s solid considering this was probably our highest-grossing event of the year — if not, definitely top three.

The Waiting Game
Here’s the kicker though… we haven’t been paid yet. This is officially the first time I’ve had to chase down a payment for an event, after the fact. Normally, everything’s squared away before, but I was probably a little too lenient with this client. Lesson learned — trust but verify when it comes to invoicing.

Still, I’m not too stressed. It’s part of the business, and I’m confident it’ll get sorted soon. In the meantime, it feels good to close out one of our biggest projects with a clean execution and a strong showing from the team.

Until next time
