Standing on Business (Even When Desperation Knocks)

Today was one long test of patience and focus. I spent most of it buried in accounting hell, chasing down leads that didn’t pan out, and trying to stay level-headed as the end of the month creeps up. Not every day’s a win, but sometimes keeping your boundaries is the win.

Accounting Jail

If there’s a version of purgatory for small business owners, it’s called “Gusto x QuickBooks Sync.” I spent hours trying to untangle the mess between the two platforms.

After too many rounds of “why isn’t this matching?” I finally pulled the plug. Gusto’s payout system moves at a snail’s pace, so I’d been paying contractors directly and then logging it in Gusto after — which created double entries I had to manually fix in QuickBooks. A total time suck. So I shut off the sync entirely. Sometimes the simplest solution really is “stop making it harder.”

Reeling in Leads (or Trying To)

I reached back out to the “big fish” from yesterday — the one that got away. Unfortunately, no dice. It stings, but I’m moving on.

I did, however, land a small but promising flooring job for tomorrow morning. The call came in after hours, and honestly, I almost waived or discounted the fees out of sheer desperation to close something before month’s end. But I stopped myself. I decided to stand on business — literally and figuratively — and boom, the booking still went through. Sometimes the universe just wants to see if you’ll flinch.

Free.99 Season

Leads were still coming in today, but most weren’t serious. It’s giving “holiday bargain hunter energy” — folks wanting two tables and ten chairs delivered tomorrow for free.99. Happens every season around this time. You start to learn that not every inquiry is worth the stress of chasing. Quality over quantity, always.
