The One That Got Away (and the Email That Never Sent)

Today had me in my head more than I’d like to admit. It started with nerves, ended with frustration, and had a good dose of self-reflection mixed in between. Some days test your patience and confidence at the same time — this was one of them.

Facing the Fear

The day kicked off with a scheduled webinar interview with the good folks at Goodshuffle. Simple enough, right? Except my stomach didn’t get that memo. I was anxious — the kind of anxiety that knots up your gut over something that, logically, shouldn’t be that scary.

I got through it fine, but I could tell I was talking fast and rambling. Classic stage fright symptoms. It’s wild how even after years of business calls and client meetings, being “on camera” can still shake me up. By the time I found my rhythm, the interview was wrapping up. Definitely a learning experience — and a reminder that confidence grows through reps, not perfection.

The Big Fish That Slipped Away

We’re closing in on the end of the month, and I’m well short of my $37K goal. I had a “big fish” on the line — a groundbreaking ceremony scheduled for this Friday. Everything looked solid: great conversation, clear interest, even a call to increase the tent size. I really thought it was locked in.

But the client never signed the contract. Just like that, the opportunity slipped away. I can’t help but think I might’ve priced myself out. They wanted the full works — sidewalls, heaters, setup, breakdown, the whole deal. And while a rush fee is fair, mine’s percentage-based, so it can get steep fast. I get it from a client’s perspective. Still stings, though. But there is still time!

Tech Trouble at the Worst Time

As if the day hadn’t thrown enough curveballs, I found out my quote reminder emails weren’t firing automatically. That discovery sent me into a mini tailspin. Those reminders are my silent closers — they keep the pressure on without me having to chase.

I had a few smaller leads that could’ve filled in some of the revenue gap, and even that big fish never got a reminder. Talk about insult to injury. Now I’ve got to manually follow up and figure out why the automation glitched in the first place. Not the ending I wanted for the day, but hey — tomorrow’s another shot to reel something back in.

Until next time
