October 25, 2025 – Daily Recap
One job, one man, and a little bit of weather management
Today felt like one of those “keep it simple” kind of days — though it didn’t quite start that way. What was supposed to be a two-job day turned into one. The universe (or the clients) had other plans, and I just rolled with it.
A Last-Minute School Request
I got a last-minute call from a local school needing 10 tables and linens. Because of our relationship, I waived the rush fee and even knocked off the weekend fee. Dropped off at 9 a.m., picked up at 4 p.m. — solo and easy breezy.
Usually when I say that, the margins take a hit. But not this time. Well, kind of. On paper, margins were around 90%, which looks great… until you factor in the 30 ruined linens that went straight to the trash. Not mad about it — I’ve got a 100% markup on linens anyway — but it’s a reminder that our “forever use” assumption doesn’t always hold up. Had I subrented, the margins might’ve been tighter, so I’ll call it a win.
Laundry, Websites, and Missed Naps
Between drop-off and pickup, I folded and sorted other linens (always a glamorous task), and — because I can’t leave well enough alone — tweaked my website again. The kids were out, and I swore today was the day I’d finally sneak in a nap. Didn’t happen. Shucks.
Tent Troubles (Almost)
By evening, I was planning to pick up some pop-up tents we’d set up Friday. With rain and wind on the forecast, I wanted to get ahead of it. Those pop-ups are great for shade or light drizzle, but they don’t stand a chance against real weather.
I texted the client to check in, but folks were still hanging out and socializing. One more peek at the radar and I decided to wait until morning — hopefully before the rain starts. Fingers crossed.
Until next time
