The Day I Played Real-Life Tetris (and Lost a Little Patience)

Today was one of those “two stops, full chaos” kind of days. On paper, it looked simple — just two deliveries — but I definitely underestimated the distance and how much stuff we were cramming into the truck. I was determined not to make multiple trips, so I packed it like a Tetris master on a timer. It worked… and my teammates were instrumental.

The Dance Floor Dilemma

The first stop was a 20x60 tent setup with sub-flooring and a dance floor, and it turned into a patience marathon. The homeowners were all over the place, measuring, re-measuring, and second-guessing every inch. I knew right away this one was going to test me.

Here’s where I slipped — I placed the dance floor without confirming placement first. Rookie move, especially with clients like this. By the time they voiced their concern, the floor was locked in. Sub-flooring, dance floor — you’re not undoing that once it’s down. They weren’t happy, and I had to own that one. It wasn’t a disaster, but it definitely wasn’t smooth sailing either.

To top it off, they asked us to move one of the tents after approving the original spot. So yeah, a long three-hour job that should’ve taken half the time.

Smooth Sailing (Mostly)

The second stop was way calmer — tables and chairs at an outdoor venue. The property manager wasn’t there when we arrived, so we had to wait to get full access. But once we got clearance to pull in, everything went smoothly.

We did have to shift a few things around since the wedding rehearsal was starting, but nothing major. The biggest takeaway from this stop? I really need to start scheduling setups earlier in the day to avoid running into clients or guests. It just makes life easier when we can drop everything off, set up clean, and roll out before anyone’s on-site.

Until next time
