Four Stops, One Truck, and a Whole Lot of Hustle
I kicked off the day early, playing an epic round of real-life Tetris to get the truck packed for our four scheduled stops. The kind of morning where the coffee barely hits before you’re breaking a sweat — but you just know it’s going to be one of those productive days.
Corporate Client Consistency
First stop — an 80-guest package for a corporate client we’ve been serving for about three years now. They host two events a year, and this was the first time I’ve set it up during the day instead of those late-night shifts I used to rely on back when I was part-time.
Funny enough, I’ve never actually met this client face-to-face. They just email, book, and pay — like clockwork. No reviews, no calls, just reliable money in the bank.
And even after a long day, we decided to pick this one up in the evening to stay ahead. My teammate and I were tired, but we pushed through. Margins were right on target — easily crossing the 80% mark. Days like this remind me how far consistency and grit can take you.
Mahjong and Card Tables
Next up was a drop-off for a mahjong tournament at a local place of worship. Simple drop-off, not set up required. This client has really kept our card tables in rotation lately. Margins will likely not be pretty, but a job is a job!
Driveway Party Win
Stop three was a last-minute 40-guest driveway party. They paid the rush fee (always a nice bonus), and the setup couldn’t have been easier. The client didn’t even want chairs arranged — music to my ears.
Oddly, we ran into an 811 locate service tech right as we pulled up. First time that’s ever happened — timing was spot on.
The Low-Margin Drop-Off
Last but not least, a quick delivery for a birthday party — a few cocktail tables, linens, and trash cans. Easy peasy, but the margins? Probably not so pretty. Still, every small job keeps the wheels turning — literally.
Reflections & Reset
After wrapping up the “first shift”, I jumped on a BAG group call. Those conversations always recharge me — there’s so much value in learning from peers walking the same path. Afterward, I caught up on emails and mapped out tomorrow’s logistics. Only two stops, but both are far apart, so planning ahead is key.
Until next time
