One-Man Show, Maximum Margin

I had just one job on the books today, and I decided to see if I could pull it off solo — and to my surprise, it went perfectly fine. I had some doubts at first, but the setup was simple enough that it ended up being a smooth day overall.

Community Vibes & Easy Setup
The event was supposed to be an HOA gathering, so I went in expecting a small, straightforward setup — just a few pop-up tents, tables, and chairs. When I got there, though, it turned out to be more of a community event, so the layout was a little more spread out than I’d pictured.

Even so, it didn’t take long: about an hour and a half for setup and another hour for takedown. What made it even better was that the pickup got moved up — it was supposed to be at 9 p.m., but the event wrapped by 6, so I swung by around 7. That saved me from a late-night pickup in the hood, so yeah, definitely a win.

Margin Madness
Now here’s the fun part — margins on this job were probably record-breaking. Since I handled it solo and didn’t need to sub-rent anything, the only real expense was gas and wear and tear. The actual margin came out to about 96%, which is wild.

Even when I calculated the “standard margin” (what it would’ve been if I hired it out), it still landed around 88%, which is nothing to complain about. It’s actually kind of surprising the client even booked, given that it was on a weekend with after-hours fees stacked in. But hey — a win is a win, and this one was a solid one.

Admin Grind & Ad Pause
Between delivery and pickup, and again after everything was wrapped, I spent some time behind the screen. I paused my Meta ads for now and revisited my LED dance floor blog post, updating both that article and the dance floor landing pages.

Those small tweaks might not look like much from the outside, but they’re the kind of behind-the-scenes work that keeps things moving forward.

Until next time
