Three tents, too many sidewalls, and one long day

Today felt like a full-on endurance test. Three tent jobs on the agenda — all with sidewalls (my sworn enemy) — and every single stop had its own little twist. It was one of those days where you look back and think, “Yep… I earned every bit of this one.”

The Wedding Weekend Warm-Up
The first stop was a repeat client hosting Thanksgiving and celebrating an upcoming wedding. Historically, this client has been… let’s just call it “detail-heavy,” so I walked in mentally bracing for chaos. He called early, which usually means something changed, but surprisingly, everything went pretty smoothly.

It still took two hours because I had a less experienced team member with me and, of course, sidewalls. They slow down everything. But overall, no curveballs — just steady work to start the day.

Patio Tetris (With a Heater Bonus)
After a quick run back to the warehouse to reload and grab lunch, we headed to stop #2 — another repeat client. I assumed this one would be easy, but then came the twist: they wanted the tent set up on their patio… which was still full of patio furniture.

The space was tight, the angles were annoying, and threading sidewalls in cramped quarters is a special kind of punishment. But we got it done: tent, sidewalls, lights, heater — the full package. Another two hours, another job down.

The Driveway That Said “Nope”
Then came stop #3, right as rush hour smacked Atlanta in the face. It took 50 minutes to go 10 miles — unreal. And when we finally arrived, the driveway decided to add to the fun. The truck couldn’t make it up without the hitch scraping, so we had to unload everything in the middle of the street.

Daylight was dropping fast, and the temperature followed. We hustled hard to get the 60-guest setup finished: tent, sidewalls, tables, chairs — the whole thing. Another two-hour setup, but we got it done, in pitch black!

And the best part? The ride back to the warehouse was only 18 minutes. Go figure.

A Few Lessons From Today
Sidewalls are still my nemesis. No change there.
BUT — I tried some new ones from Tent and Table, and honestly? They performed better than I expected.

I also learned I need a better method for getting my double-tube tents closer together when joining them with sidewalls. Unscrewing the leg feet might be the move next time. Today made that pretty clear.

Until next time
