November 2, 2025 – Daily Recap

I kicked off my first day at MATRA today — and thanks to daylight savings, I was up and ready earlier than expected. After a long five-hour drive down to North Carolina, I rolled in around 2 p.m. feeling equal parts curious and ready to work.

Hitting the Ground at MATRA

The day started fast. I went straight to the job site, shook a few hands, and started soaking it all in. There’s something energizing about being surrounded by people who just get the event world — talking tents, tools, and all the behind-the-scenes chaos that makes events look effortless.

I spent a good while watching crews work, walking the site, and checking out some new products I hadn’t seen before up close. It was a mix of learning and people-watching — equal parts fascinating and humbling.

By 6 p.m., I was ready to check into the hotel, drop my bags, and get ready for the second half.

Networking, the Right Way

Later, I headed to a local brewery where manufacturers and operators were just hanging out, swapping stories over a beer or two. These are my favorite kinds of networking moments — just genuine conversation. I walked away with a few new insights and maybe a couple of new friends in the business.

Quiet on the Home Front

Back in Atlanta, the phones were quiet. Too quiet. Just one random text about a 20x20 same-day request (because of course), but otherwise it was dead. I know slow days happen, but man, I don’t like that kind of silence.
