Two small wins can rescue an entire day
Today felt like one of those days where the work wasn’t hard… just long. I spent more time on the road than on actual installs, which always leaves me in my head a bit. Still, the little victories added up and turned what could’ve been a dead day into a solid one.
Long-Distance Delivery Life
I kicked off the morning with a dance floor delivery almost two hours away — each way. Wild to think about, considering I used to complain about driving from Baltimore to DC. Now I treat four hours round-trip like it’s normal.
The setup itself? Smooth. No clients hovering, no questions, no conversations. I pulled up, installed the dance floor, and dipped. Four hours of driving for thirty minutes of work. The math never math’s… but here we are.
The Stressful-but-Saved Drop-Off
After that marathon run, I had one more delivery — a simple tables-and-chairs drop-off just ten minutes from the warehouse. But this one had my nerves on alert.
The client hadn’t paid the invoice until this morning. I really thought I was going to have to cancel the order, and then out of nowhere, I woke up to a payment notification.
Then came the issue of the delivery window. She wasn’t responding. And when I showed up? She didn’t have the key to the clubhouse. Peak rental biz chaos.
In the end, everything worked out. And thankfully, I had added a rush fee — which I had actually tried to waive earlier in the week because, truthfully, desperation makes you do dumb things. But when she let the quote expire and the back-and-forth dragged out, I forced myself to stick to the script.
A Day Saved by Small Wins
When it was all said and done, it wasn’t a big revenue day, but it wasn’t a dead one either. Two small wins, a few reminders about boundaries, and a little bit of relief that the day didn’t go to waste.
Until next time
