May 8, 2025 - Daily Recap

Six hours, four tents, one tight backyard, and a whole lot of hindsight

Some days you just know you’re walking into a mess. I got to the warehouse at 7 a.m., hoping things would go smooth — but fully prepared for them not to. We had one job on the books, and I already knew it was going to be a puzzle. What I didn’t know was just how many variables would shift the second we pulled up.

The Early Hustle & A Backyard Puzzle
We were setting up a 15x45 (3x 15x15 clear-top high peaks) and a 20x15 tent in an extremely tight backyard. This job was booked months ago when things were slow, so I probably agreed to more than I should’ve.

Here’s how it unfolded:

  • No driveway access — we had to hand-carry everything a longer distance

  • A newly installed in-ground fire pit wasn’t there during my original site visit

  • First tent went up easy. Second one? We made a mistake that set us back

  • After two tents in two hours, we took a break for food and water — mostly for my guy

  • Third tent was smooth, all things considered

  • The 20x15 was the real issue

    • The space was barely wide enough

    • I forgot the legs would need angled clearance

    • I had meant to bring a tent jack but never wrote it down

    • It went up, but not without some serious wrestling

We finished around 2 p.m. A six-hour install for one property. Not my best-planned day, but we got it done. The margin on this one is probably going to be atrocious.

Logistics, Rain Panic & Sub Rentals
Dropped my helper at the warehouse and caught up on emails. The pending weekend rain has customers spinning — lots of inquiries, few confirmations.

Then I hit the road to grab two sub rentals from two different bigger companies:

  • 6 pop-up tents with weights to support a job next week

  • 50 black resin chairs, which I have to deliver back to the same wedding site we’d just left (sometime tomorrow)

I also loaded up three 48” round tables I picked up from BJ’s earlier this week — they’ll be going out this weekend.

After that, the day finally wrapped.

Well — not really.

Office Hours: The After Shift
Back at the office (aka home), I was still fielding emails and questions left and right. It’s crunch time for graduation season, and the folks who didn’t plan ahead are feeling the sting. I can’t save everyone — but I’ll try to book the ones I can.

Until next time
