One brutal takedown, a clean dance floor install, and a college kid who saved the day

Scrambling for Help, Again
My main guy took the day off (well-deserved), and my second guy had limited availability. That left me scrambling. Thankfully, our new college teammate stepped up and carried a lot of the weight today. Without him, Friday’s entire schedule would’ve been in jeopardy.

Clear Tent Takedown: Finally
After a full week, we finally took down the wedding install with the clear top tents. This was the job we set up last Thursday, and we were way overdue.

  • Revenue: $3,927

  • Total Job Cost: $782

  • Profit: $3,145 (80.08%)

  • ARA Calculator Profit: $2,893 (73.65%)

  • Difference: -6.43%

The margins look great on paper — and frankly, I’m shocked they broke 70%. The only reason we came out this strong is because the job was so close to the warehouse. Minimal driving kept costs down.

That said, I absolutely hated this job.

  • We spent 6.5 hours setting it up, and another 4.5 hours taking it down.

  • The clear tent tops were miserable to work with — we had to pry them off one by one.

  • Definitely not sustainable labor-wise for a company long-term.

  • The bright side? We got some photos and came away with a hard-earned lesson: Never do this again.

Warehouse Reset & Route Mapping
After that, I headed back to the warehouse and had my college teammate unload and reload the truck while I fielded inquiries and tried to grab some lunch. I also took time to map out the rest of our routes for the week — always better when I get ahead.

Quick Backyard Drop-Off
Next up was a drop-off of 105 chairs and eight 8-foot tables to a backyard.
Light work with the electric dolly, and we were in and out in 15 minutes. Needed that win.

Dance Floor First: Dark Maple Meets Checkered White
Final stop of the day was the install of a dark maple and white checkered dance floor — a first for us.

  • Took 90 minutes to get there (thanks, rush hour)

  • Install took under an hour

  • We got some great pictures

  • And even walked away with a little tip

This install was originally scheduled for tomorrow, but a tent went in early, giving us a window to knock it out today. Glad we took it — it should take some pressure off Friday’s schedule.

Until next time
