Rain, Rush Fees, and a Very Dirty Dance Floor

Some days are just a long, sweaty commute wrapped in logistics and manual labor. Monday was one of those days. The kind where the work isn’t hard, just annoying — spaced too far apart, with no real breaks, and nothing glamorous to show for it. Just mileage, margins, and muscle aches.
Morning: Cross-Town Retrievals
Another solo mission. Two pickups on opposite sides of town — both easy, both ready-to-go, but spaced just far enough apart to feel like a trap.
First stop: everything stacked nicely, but the drive crushed the numbers.
Job Cost: $202
Profit: $213 (51.38%)
ARA Estimate: $149 (35.97%)
Difference: -15.41%
Terrible margins — expected when you’re spending more time behind the wheel than on-site. This one only made sense because I did it solo. Also worth noting: the rush fee was waived here, which would’ve added about 25% more to revenue.
Second Stop: Marginally Better
Closer to home and less of a drag.
Second stop numbers:
Job Cost: $112
Profit: $310 (73.43%)
ARA Estimate: $267 (63.32%)
Difference: -10.11%
Still no rush fee, still annoying — but at least the math didn’t make me cringe as hard. Ohh, and this one came with a 5-star review! The solo factor helped again.
Afternoon: Warehouse Mode
Unloaded a few things, but most of the day vanished into cleaning those dance floors from Sunday. Five hours. All by hand. On my knees like some kind of medieval floor scrubber.
Time to stop playing and invest in a pressure washer. Seriously.
Until next time.
