The calm after May’s storm
Some days move fast, others remind you to slow down and regroup. Today fell in the latter category. After a packed May, the warehouse still looks like it hosted a yard sale. But a little progress is still progress, and we’re slowly pulling it back together. The one and only stop had its fair share of behind-the-scenes drama, just to keep things interesting.
One Pickup, One Panic Attack
The only job on the books today was retrieving a TV and stand dropped off the day before. A straightforward pickup — but it came with a backstory. This gig was for a friend who reached out about a week before their event. I sent my normal quote: rush fees (because, well, rush), portage fees (downtown elevator situations are no joke), and standard delivery. It wasn’t a small number, so I offered to shave it down — eventually waiving everything but the delivery.
Cue panic: a few days before go-time, I tested the TV and discovered it had the dreaded screen crack. Not visible, but enough to make the whole thing useless. Replacement options? Not in stock. Not shipping in time. Honestly, I was hoping the whole thing would get canceled. But no such luck — so I tracked down a solid replacement locally. Staples even let me return the broken one, post-deadline, thanks to a kind customer service agent. Shoutout to whoever that was.

Looks dreamy on a spreadsheet. Feels less dreamy when you factor in panic-buying a new TV and that brief existential spiral. But I did it solo, which padded the margins.
Back at Base
Wrapped the day with some light warehouse therapy: unloading gear, answering a few calls, and moving things back into place, piece by piece. Still a ways to go before it feels organized again, but at least the chaos is now stacked a little neater.
Until next time
