The dolly’s still dead, and GPT almost joined it

Today was a split shift: part admin, part fieldwork, and part troubleshooting what feels like a growing list of things that should “just work.” I kicked off the morning trying to get my profit calculations to play nice in Chat GPT. Let’s just say we had a little back-and-forth — me, politely yelling at an algorithm. But progress was made. I’ve got better instructions now and we’re closer to something reliable.

Warehouse Reset and Long-Avoided Pickup

Once the digital dust settled, I headed to the warehouse to unpack gear from Monday and prep for the one job I’d pushed off: a 40-minute drive pickup for tables and chairs. Still dreading it, but it had to be done.

Pickup was smooth. The client had everything ready, and aside from knowing I’ll be scrubbing chair legs for a bit, it was uneventful. Margins for this one landed in the low 60s — and that’s with a rush fee and adjusted delivery pricing. If I’d paid someone else to handle it? We’d be well under 50%. It's the kind of job that tricks small operators — looks easy, feels profitable, but the math doesn’t lie.

Dolly Troubles Continue

Back at the warehouse, I tried reviving the electric dolly from Granite. No dice. It charged overnight but still wouldn’t stay on unless plugged in. After a few messages with the manufacturer, they sent over electrical manuals, which were helpful. It’s probably a battery issue. I’ve got it charging again overnight. Hoping for a miracle — but hoping to get a replacement sooner than later.

Until next time
