January 16, 2026 – Daily Recap

Two jobs, tight math, and an early start to the weekend

Today was simple and pretty light. January standards, at least. Two events on the board, no curveballs, just moving gear and watching the numbers closely. Not exciting, but days like this still matter.

Ten Chairs and Bad Decisions

The first stop of the day was dropping off chairs. Ten of them. I don’t know why I keep agreeing to these kinds of jobs, because I already know how they usually play out. Sure enough, it was exactly what I expected.

It was a $300 job, and in January that money has to work overtime. There’s not much room for error this time of year, and every small job feels bigger than it should. I can already tell that January is going to look different for the company as time goes on, because days like this just don’t scale well.

Pickup Done Right

Next up was picking up cocktail tables and barstools I dropped off on Wednesday. This part of the day went way smoother. I knew where the loading dock was, there were no customers hanging around, and I didn’t have to make any small talk. In and out.

The margins on this one landed at 77%, which is right where I want them. That number was helped a lot by portage and rush fees. Without those, it would’ve been a very different story and probably below 70%. Still, this was a solid job and a good example of how much pricing structure matters on smaller events.

Admin and Clocking Out

After unloading the truck, I headed back to the home office to catch up on emails and make sure nothing was sitting unanswered. Just basic cleanup and loose ends.

Before long, it was time to pick up the kids and roll straight into the weekend. No drama, no rush — just closing things out and calling it a day.

Until next time
