I felt like I was knocking the rust off today. After being out of rhythm for a bit, it was good to get back to work and just move. There’s something about getting back in the saddle that reminds me why I like this game in the first place.
Early Pickup, Big Relief
Started the morning early with a pickup for a corporate client we dropped off to a couple of weeks ago before my trip. I’ll be honest — I was nervous we weren’t going to be able to make the timing work on this one. They needed flexibility, and so did we.
Thankfully, they gave us room to deliver almost two weeks ahead of their event and circle back for pickup afterward. Everything went exactly as planned. No hiccups.
We also realized we’ve been to this building multiple times and are just now discovering how simple the loading dock access is. Once we found the right flow, we were in and out quickly.
Margins landed just above 70%, which is starting to feel like our sweet spot.
Following Up & Talking Shop
After unloading the truck and knocking out a few quotes, I headed to a networking meet-up with a new owner/operator looking to get into the industry.
The connection actually came from being on the American Tent Podcast, which was a good reminder that you never really know what small opportunities can turn into. One conversation leads to another.
We talked shop, ideas, and the realities of the business. Nothing groundbreaking — just solid conversation and connection. But those add up.
Rainy Site Visit & A Possible Upsell
Last stop of the day was a wedding reception site visit for this summer.
It was raining cats and dogs, which made measurements less than ideal, but we got it done. The job itself is straightforward, and we already had a good sense of the layout. Some clients just want the face time and reassurance that everything fits the way it should. I get that completely.
While walking the space, I was able to suggest staging they hadn’t fully considered. If that comes through, it’ll push this one over the hump in a good way.
After that, I picked up the kids and called it. Nasty weather, productive day, solid margins. Back in motion.
Until next time
