I woke up already bracing for impact. For whatever reason, I had convinced myself today was going to drag and probably throw a few curveballs. Instead, it ended up being one of those days that quietly reminds me I’m still learning—and that I don’t have to assume the worst.
Mah Jongg Tournament Drop-Off
I got to the warehouse, double-checked my lists, and hit the ground running. First stop was dropping off card tables for a mah jongg tournament. They’re a repeat client who hosts tournaments at different venues, and this one was at a new hotel for us.
The loading dock was easy to access, which already felt like a small victory. Everything went much smoother than I anticipated. I love it when things just… work.
Valentine’s Day Restaurant Delivery
Next up was a small table drop-off for a Valentine’s Day event at a restaurant. Ironically, this was the smallest order of the day and the one that required the most effort.
Parking was tricky. Finding staff took longer than it should have. A lot of little friction points. Still, it was relatively painless overall—just one of those jobs that makes you work for it.
Resin Chair Pickup and Strong Margins
After that, I picked up the clear resin chairs I had dropped off yesterday. This one took longer than I expected. Stacking these resin chairs isn’t as simple as it sounds—they have to align exactly right, and we have to be careful not to scratch anything.
The bright spot here was the margins. This one landed above 70%, which I’m really happy with. Small chair-only orders are usually margin killers, but our pricing strategy on these appear to have helped here. That felt like a quiet win.
The “Big Boy” Cocktail Table Order
Last stop was what I’d been calling my “big boy” for the day—a cocktail table order that just kept growing. What started as a small job that would require a few sub-rentals turned into subrenting more than half the order as the client’s list expanded.
This one required a loading dock and elevators, which I didn’t factor into pricing. I was on site for more than an hour getting everything dialed in. I’m genuinely curious to see how the margins shake out.
Bright spot? The delivery was to a restaurant, and they hooked me up with steak tacos. I’m not sure if it was the food or just the timing, but that alone shifted my whole mood.
Not a bad day at all.
Until next time
