Productive frustration and a reminder to zoom out

Today was one of those days that felt busy in a very specific way. Mentally full, technically messy, but still moving forward.

A Million Tabs and an 80% Win

The morning disappeared into a sea of open tabs, dashboards, and half-finished setups. I spent hours trying to add Google tags and get everything talking to each other the way it’s supposed to. Lots of back and forth, lots of “almost there,” and plenty of moments where it felt way more complicated than it should’ve been.

I didn’t fully finish, but I got about 80% of the way there before I had to step away. At a certain point, my brain just needed a break.

I was working with AI the whole time, and toward the end I changed my approach completely. Instead of letting it give me long, drawn-out explanations, I started feeding it screenshots and asking for simple yes-or-no answers. That alone made things feel way more manageable.

Honestly, I don’t even think this setup will be that impactful the way I’m currently applying it. But that wasn’t really the point. This was more of a learning exercise — something to struggle through now so I’m not avoiding it later when it actually matters. I’m not trying to be an expert, but I also don’t want this to be one of those important tasks I keep dodging.

Just Another Day (Even When It Isn’t)

This was a last-minute booking, so I did at least grab a rush fee. Small win. But I completely forgot to even think about a holiday fee. New Year’s Eve, businesses closed everywhere, and I treated it like a random Wednesday afternoon drop-off. No big deal.

I’m also picking up tomorrow — New Year’s Day — when a lot of places are still closed — and again, it barely registered as anything special. That mindset usually serves me well, but today it probably cost me a little extra I should’ve charged.

Ah well.

The job itself was easy: cocktail tables and barstools. In and out, no drama. And I discovered a new spot along the way, which felt like a bonus I didn’t expect.

I messed up the pricing, but I’m still thankful for the job. It got done fast, the day stayed light, and I walked away a little smarter than I started.

Until next time
