Back Baby
I woke up early today for the first time in a few days, and honestly, that alone set the tone. With the kids home from school, my sleep schedule’s been a little reckless, and I didn’t want to dig myself into a deficit. But today? We’re back, baby.
Resetting the Rhythm
There’s something powerful about getting back to an early start after drifting off course. It wasn’t about forcing productivity — it just felt like my body and brain finally synced back up. I didn’t rush it, but I also didn’t waste it, and that made all the difference.
Even before the work started, it felt like I had momentum again. Not frantic, not stressed — just steady.
QuickBooks Chaos (Self-Inflicted)
I spent a chunk of the morning digging through QuickBooks, trying to reconcile things as best I could. That turned into almost two hours on the phone, bouncing from topic to topic and opening cans I probably knew were there but avoided anyway.
I’ll be honest — by the end of it, I was more confused than when I started. But this is one of those situations where I asked for the pain. You don’t get clarity without walking through some mess first, and today was definitely that.
Small Job
I only had one pickup today — ten chairs and one table. One of those bookings where the delivery fee costs more than the rentals themselves. Since it was small and close to home, I tossed everything into the Nissan Sentra and knocked it out on the way to the warehouse. Saved myself some truck miles, which felt like a tiny win.
Margins landed right where these usually do for these baby jobs — around 47% — with driving labor eating the most. Not amazing, but this time of year, that $200 mattered. Sometimes it’s not about perfect numbers, it’s about timing.
Warehouse Drift (The Productive Kind)
After returning the items, I planned to head straight home. That didn’t happen. I kept finding little things to do — the kind of stuff that’s easy to ignore but adds up when you handle it in the moment.
The phone kept ringing, quotes were going out, and somewhere in between all that, I was doing random stuff like changing my windshield wipers. Nothing glamorous, but it felt good staying in motion.
Now I’m just hoping one of those conversations turns into a solid booking and helps kick off the year the right way.
Until next time
