December 26, 2025 – Daily Recap
Quiet data, loud implications
Today was another one of those in-between days — not a full workday, but not a total write-off either. I managed to get some meaningful thinking done before life pulled me away, and honestly, that feels like a win right now.
Digging Into ROI Without Touching the Knobs
I spent part of the day continuing my ROI analysis, focusing this time on tents, tables, and chairs. I didn’t actually make any pricing or inventory changes yet — this was purely about understanding what the numbers are telling me before I start reacting.
That distinction matters. I’ve learned the hard way that jumping straight from insight to action usually skips an important step.
Even so, a few takeaways already stood out.
Chairs: The Result I Didn’t Expect
Chair revenue makes up a decent chunk of overall revenue, which wasn’t shocking. What was shocking was which chairs are carrying the most weight.
White plastic chairs came out as the top performer.
That caught me completely off guard. I only own about 500 of them, and at $3.50 per chair, they’re intentionally overpriced. That’s by design — I’m not interested in volume bookings where these end up in muddy backyards just so I can turn around and pay someone $25 an hour to scrub them clean.
Because of that, volume has always been lower, and I was fine with that tradeoff. Seeing them outperform everything else (by revenue) tells me there’s something deeper going on here. I definitely need to dig further to understand why these are winning and whether there’s an opportunity I’ve been underestimating.
A Quiet Tent Winner
On the tent side, the 20x15 high peak tent was surprising.
I only own one of these, and it’s an odd size. Originally, the idea was that I could pair two together to create a 20x30 more easily than wrestling with a single-piece frame. In practice, that didn’t really pan out. The double tube is heavy, and all the extra splicing hardware makes the frame even heavier. Plus, I’m more proficient with the one-piece now. So that experiment was short-lived.
Despite that, the tent went out seven times this year, and the payback period is under a year. That’s hard to ignore.
Because of that performance, I added it back into my “Common Sizes” section. It feels like a quiet winner — the kind of item that doesn’t get talked about much but consistently pulls its weight.
Then Life Took Over
I didn’t get to spend as much time on this as I wanted. Before long, the kids were ready to get out of the house, and with the weather being absolutely perfect, the choice was easy.
The numbers will still be there tomorrow. Today ended up being a good mix of insight and real life, and I’m okay with that.
Until next time
