December 18, 2025 – Daily Recap
One of those days where everything that could test your patience absolutely tried
I could tell early on the universe was clocking in for overtime today. I didn’t show up as my best self, and that’s hard to admit, but it’s real. This was one of those days that piled on before I even had a chance to catch my breath.
Family Comes First… Even When Work Doesn’t Care
The morning started rough. My kid woke up sick and needed to stay home from school, and at the same time my wife was heading out of town. I immediately felt that internal tug-of-war between being a dad and being a business owner. Events don’t pause because life gets complicated, and today was a perfect example of that reality. I had one install on the schedule, and whether I felt ready or not, it was happening.
A Win I’d Been Waiting For
This install was actually a milestone for me. It was the first time I was setting up my stage — one I bought earlier this year. I usually sub-rent stages, so landing an event that perfectly matched the size I own felt like a small win. I was genuinely excited about it. We loaded the truck, started it up to warm the engine, and for a brief moment, things felt like they were finally lining up.
Locked Out and Losing It
And then… chaos. My helper accidentally locked us out of the truck. I wish I could say I laughed it off, but I didn’t. An hour later, after hanger gymnastics and way too much frustration, we finally got back in. I was angry — visibly so — and I’m not proud of how I handled that moment. I could’ve shown more grace. That one stuck with me the rest of the day.
Smooth Install, Until It Wasn’t
Once we actually got to the venue, things settled. The install went smoothly — about two hours to set up the stage and dance floor. We even had extra hands helping carry items in, which made a huge difference. For a moment, it felt like the day was redeeming itself.
Then came the snag: no stage steps. Not because we forgot — but because the supplier shipped them late. I asked for them on Tuesday so I could unbox and understand them before Friday. They shipped Tuesday… and they arrived today. While we were already installing. That meant another trip.
So instead of wrapping the day up cleanly, I stayed back at the warehouse, unboxed the steps, figured out how everything went together, and prepped for yet another early run tomorrow. Hopefully.
Some days humble you. Today definitely did.
Until next time
