December 16, 2025 – Daily Recap

A full December workday that had no business being this full

Today was no joke. A full day of work in December doesn’t even feel right — I should be easing into the slowdown by now. Instead, I had six jobs on the agenda, some planned and some picked up while I was still on vacation.

Starting the Day in the Red

First stop was a corporate gig that technically wasn’t a loser, but it sure didn’t feel like a win. Simple tables and chairs, no setup, less than a 15-minute drive — on paper, this should’ve been easy money. Margins didn’t even cross 50%, which doesn’t meet my threshold at all.

Still, it’s one of those jobs you do to keep corporate relationships warm. To top it off, I’m pretty sure they broke one of my tables. That’ll just get chalked up to the cost of doing business.

The Biggest Loser of the Day

Next was the real gut punch. A small holiday party for a previous client, but the distance absolutely crushed the margins. We didn’t even hit 25%. Yikes.

I honestly didn’t think this one would book since delivery alone was almost as much as the rentals. Joke was on me. It’s a repeat client though, and I’m hoping this is one of those short-term losses that turns into referrals and bigger jobs down the road.

Solid Work, Mixed Results

After that, we picked up flooring for an outdoor holiday party. The client had already disassembled it to save their lawn, which was totally fine and probably saved us a few minutes. This was a solid job overall. Distance hurt again, but hitting around 60% margins in December isn’t bad at all.

Next up was tables and chairs at a local business. Everything was ready when we arrived, which I always appreciate. Margins came in at 79%, comfortably in my acceptable range. The only downside was hearing about cars getting broken into during the party — including a pregnant woman who had all her baby shower items stolen. Just cruel.

Heavy Lifting and a Magical Ending

Then came the big boy job: tearing down a 15x50 tent combo for a repeat client. Four hours to install earlier, two and a half to remove today, no client on site — just straight work. Margins just cleared 80%, and they were absolutely earned.

That was supposed to be it, but I grabbed one last-minute delivery to a nearby school. Dropped off 40 card tables, no setup. The place felt like Hogwarts — straight out of a movie set. Easy job, cool experience, and we’ll see how the margins shake out.

Until next time
