Balancing admin, strategy, and the grind of delivery—one tent at a time
Hey Future Owner,
📊 Thinking Through a 30-Wide Strategy
I’ve been wrestling with the idea of launching a more competitive 30-wide tent offering. The market pricing is tight—almost uncomfortably low considering what it costs to run the job. Still, I built a no-frills landing page for it. It’s live, but won’t be listed on the main site. For now, I’m planning to share it directly with event professionals only.
This might push me to revisit the hybrid tent models. Not my favorite route, but the math may force my hand.
Here’s a quick snapshot of the pricing vs. profit vs. breakeven:
Tent Size | Price | Est. Labor | Gross Profit | Breakeven Jobs (on $9K investment) |
---|---|---|---|---|
30x30 | $995 | $340 | $655 | ~13.7 jobs |
30x40 | $1,325 | $380 | $945 | ~9.5 jobs |
30x50 | $1,655 | $420 | $1,235 | ~7.3 jobs |
30x60 | $1,995 | $460 | $1,535 | ~5.9 jobs |
😬 Regrets at the Condo
Also had a small drop-off today—just 40 chairs and 6 round tables. But it came with a hidden cost. It was at a condominium, which meant elevators, long walks, and no easy loading zone. Rookie mistake: I forgot to charge a portage fee.
This client was price-sensitive, but I’m kicking myself. I could’ve added the portage and let them opt out by doing the hauling themselves. Would’ve saved time, effort, and my back.
I’ll share the final numbers when I pick everything up tomorrow.
🔁 Closing Thoughts
Some days it’s spreadsheets. Some days it’s elevators. But every day is a chance to tweak, test, and get better at this game. Whether it's pricing smarter or charging for the hustle, today’s choices will help shape the business tomorrow.
