Back on Track: Getting It Done, On and Off the Clock - February 24, 2025
From smooth setups to unexpected setbacks—how a problem-solving mindset keeps the momentum going

Hey Future Owner,
Back on Track and Stirring Things Up
I’m running at about 70% today—good enough to get back on track and start stirring things up.
Quick Setup, Strong Presence
We delivered and set up card tables for another mah jongg tournament today, and it went super smooth. We were in and out in under an hour. Honestly, it could’ve been a one-person job. Still, I’ve got this thing about showing up solo—it just doesn’t sit right with me. I feel like it doesn’t show well to the client. Retrievals are different, though. Less of a time crunch, and the client’s usually not around, so optics aren’t as important.
Readers: I’m genuinely curious about your thoughts here! Does it look unprofessional if someone shows up to a job to deliver 200 chairs (as an example) and takes an hour (or more) to set up, knowing a 2 person team knocks this out in 15 minutes?
The Grind Behind the Scenes
The rest of the day was spent answering phones and handling customer requests. Not the most exciting part of the job, but it’s necessary—and it keeps everything running smoothly.
Staying Open to New Tools
I also took a meeting with another software company to check out a demo. I’m not likely to switch right now—especially at this time of year—but I think it’s my responsibility as a business owner to keep exploring and stay up to date. Our current software is solid, but with no built-in phone system or CRM, I’ve got to keep my eyes open for better solutions.
Getting It Done—On and Off the Clock
On a personal note, I managed to hit a curb and completely wreck a tire on our personal vehicle. Normally, the old W-2 version of me would’ve called AAA, waited for hours, and then burned half a day of PTO at an overpriced shop. I almost fell into that habit—but not anymore. I’m a tent guy now, and we get things done. I had the donut on in 20 minutes and still made it to my kid’s after-school activity. I guess that mindset is rubbing off.
Closing Thoughts
Today was about more than just getting back on track—it was a reminder that this get-it-done attitude doesn’t stop at work. It’s becoming part of how I handle everything.
Talk soon—time to keep things moving.
