Momentum Building and a Mold-Free Victory
We hit the road early with two jobs on deck and a truck full of gear. Both were supposed to be straightforward, but of course, every event setup comes with its own twists and lessons. By the end of the day, I felt like I’d run the full spectrum—momentum wins, client chatter marathons, and even mold-free science experiments.
Repeat Client + Mold-Free Win
First stop was with a repeat client—someone we worked with last year who called back to book two more events this year. That’s the kind of validation you can’t put a price on. It feels like we’re gaining real momentum, and this is me admitting I’ve been doing a pretty poor job with follow-ups. Imagine what happens when we actually tighten that up? Exciting stuff.
On top of that, I made a point of setting up a top we had to take down wet last weekend. I stored it in the office rather than in the warehouse because I’d heard the AC slows mold growth. And guess what—mold free! Sometimes the little experiments pay off, and this one definitely felt like a win.
Garage-Side Setup & a Million Questions
Second stop was a garage-side setup for a lovely older couple. Let’s just say… they had questions. About a million of them. I don’t mind, though—it comes with the territory, but it does make me wonder how you factor “client Q&A marathons” into my cost structure.
Also, front-of-house setups always put me a little on edge. Utilities usually run in from the street, and even though we called 811 and everything was marked, I still have trust issues. What if someone missed a line? Luckily, it all went smooth. And we’re all alive!
Warehouse Wrap-Up & Last-Minute Booking
Both setups wrapped in about an hour each, and I was done by 2pm. Back at the warehouse, I tidied up a few things and locked in a last-minute booking for tomorrow. Yes, that means working Saturday again, but hey—we’ve got goals to meet, so no complaints.
Peer Call = Fresh Perspective
Closed out the day with a 2.5-hour call with a group of other tent rental operators. It was refreshing to swap stories with young, newer guys in the industry. Huge shout out to Larry Ott from Rainier for connecting me to the group—he saw the value that comes from pulling like-minded people together. A true vet in this industry with a ton of knowledge.
Until next time
