The Long Drive Job
Today was one of those jobs that made me question if I secretly signed up for a long-haul trucking side hustle. We had just one setup, but it was way out of town — an hour to get there in the morning, and then an hour and a half crawling back in the afternoon.

This was the very job that pushed me to finally invest in the string light pole and base system. The original plan was simple: 300 feet of string lights across three different spots around the client’s house. Then, of course, the weather decided to spice things up. The client pivoted to adding a 20x40 tent in one location, plus string lights at the other two. No refunds on the original setup plan (of course), but since they booked the tent just a few days ago, I waived the rush fee. Can’t wait to sit down and run the profitability analysis on this one.

Calls, Calls, and More Calls
Meanwhile, the phone was going crazy! Service was spotty where we were, so a lot of calls rolled straight to voicemail, but the inquiries were flowing in. Some of them even sounded like really strong, high-ticket opportunities.

These are the days I wish I had an office manager… or maybe even an AI voice agent who could answer, book, and keep the money flowing while I’m knee-deep in tent poles and string lights.

Networking Event Fail
After the long drive back, I tried to squeeze in a networking event. The venue was only five miles away, but Atlanta traffic plus a summer downpour had other plans. Thirty minutes later, I was still sitting in my car, soaked and staring at GPS telling me it’d be another half hour before I got there. I waved the white flag and headed home.

Silver lining? I used that unexpected free time to catch up on all the client messages I’d neglected throughout the day. Sometimes a rainout isn’t the worst thing.
