Saving tents, cutting lights, and squeezing in some networking

I thought today was going to be a straightforward grind, but it turned into one of those “wear every hat in the closet” days. From swooping in with a pop-up tent rescue at dawn to drying out gear in the parking lot after midnight, it was a full-circle kind of day.

Pop-Up Tent Heroics

Yesterday at the last minute, I scored a sweet gig that kicked off early this morning. A college brand activation crew had one of their custom tents cave in from the heavy rain (and trust me, I was out in that downpour, so I know what they went through).

They needed a 10x20 with all the sides, and I was happy to oblige — especially for a $600 pop-up job. Setup was smooth, and their guys even helped pitch in since it had to fit over their pallet of gear. Not a bad way to start the day.

Warehouse Mode

Back at the shop, I buried myself in admin work… until my laptop tapped out on me. Classic.

I switched gears and put the last of my bulbs to work, cutting two new strands of string lights before finally calling it quits and finishing up admin tasks at home. Nothing glamorous, but it needed to be done.

The Extrovert Emerges

The evening was for networking — another event full of wedding pros at a familiar venue. Even though I’d been there before, I still met fresh faces.

One of the most interesting convos was with a lady who runs a casino nights rental biz out of her house with no full-time staff. She’s making a decent living at it, too, which definitely got me thinking about my own business model.

One Last Detour

Just when I thought the day was over, I learned that the brand activation crew from this morning was striking everything that night. If I waited until the next morning like planned, my tent would’ve been sitting out there all alone.

So I mustered up the last bit of energy, picked up the tent (soaked, of course), and drove it back to the warehouse. Game-time decision: I set it up in the parking lot to dry out. Fingers crossed it’s still standing when I check tomorrow.

Until next time
