Learning lessons, high margins, and forgetting the business cards
The Site Visit Curveball
I started my morning with a long drive — nearly an hour out for a site visit. This client had been quoted for a pole tent, but the setup is actually happening on their driveway. That means we need a frame tent instead. Not the smoothest start, but honestly, I’m choosing to look at it as a learning moment. Adjustments like these might be annoying now, but they open the door to new opportunities. Stay tuned — this one could turn into something cool.
Quick Wins at the Warehouse
Back at home base, I carved out a little planning time for this weekend’s events. After that, it was back on the road to pick up the tables and chairs we dropped off yesterday. Smooth, quick, painless — just how I like it. The margins came in at ~ 68%. Ehh!
Building While Dodging Rain
Once the truck was unloaded, I shifted gears into admin mode. I stood up a brand-new 20-guest package landing page on the website (a small step that feels like a big upgrade). At the same time, the forecast decided to play games, so I was busy sending out quotes to customers worried about the weekend rain.
Networking with a Side of “SMH”
In the evening, I had to juggle priorities: my kids had an event at their school, but there was also a networking opportunity at a venue I’d never been to before. I managed to do both — showed face at the school, then ducked out early to make it to the venue. And I’m glad I did. Met the folks in charge, confirmed they need tenting solutions, and even bumped into a few familiar faces. The only fail? I forgot my business cards. Rookie move. But overall, it was a successful night.
Until next time
