Finding balance between business and being human
I had to take a quick detour from Peachy life this weekend — I was in NYC for a wedding. Two days in the city meant I didn’t knock out a huge to-do list, but I still managed to sneak in some work between airports and hotel lobbies. Classic “never really off the clock” small business vibes.
Backyard Party Bundle Brainstorming
At the airport, I started sketching out a smaller package bundle for backyard parties. Honestly, this is long overdue. Customers have asked me plenty of times if we offer smaller setups, and instead of making it easy for them, I’ve just told them to go a la carte. Shame on me.
Not everyone needs a full production setup, and I think offering a simplified option could be a game-changer for folks who just want something clean and easy. It’s one of those ideas that could make Peachy more approachable for the casual host while still keeping the brand elevated.
Curveballs and Creativity
Even at the hotel, I had to deal with a little plot twist. One of my clients decided to switch their event from a pole tent to a frame tent. Not exactly a margin-friendly move on my end, but it forced me to flex my problem-solving muscles. It wasn’t ideal, but every time something like this happens, I feel like I get a little sharper at making the pieces fit.
The Rain Rush
Of course, the forecast for this upcoming weekend says rain, which means… you guessed it: the last-minute scramble for tents has already started. Instead of fighting it or trying to educate customers into planning better, I’ve decided to just lean in. If this is the natural flow of the business, then I’ll find a way to make it work.
That said, it doesn’t mean I’ll let my time get wasted. One client had me pull together a quote over the weekend, only to let it expire without a peep. That kind of thing stings — especially when it cuts into personal time. But next time, that’s a rush fee situation. We’ve already got an event with them on the books, and I’m not afraid to hold firm.
Until next time
