A Profitable Monday: Mah Jong, Margins & Moving Tables - February 25, 2024

Breaking down the numbers, keeping an eye on inventory, and knowing when to call it a day

Mah Jong Tables & Margins: A Solid Monday Win

First stop of the day: picking up the card tables from the Mah Jong tournament we set up yesterday. It was a two-person job to drop them off, but I went solo for pickup—because, you know, margins.

Here’s how the numbers break down:

  • Total Revenue: ~$1,035

  • Job Costs: ~$260

  • Contribution Profit Margin: $775 (about 75%)

This event checked all the right boxes—low stress, easy access, no tight deadlines. If we can pull off two of these per week alongside our other projects, we should be in good shape for the year. Plus, Monday events are rare for us, so it’s nice to fill that gap.

Are Card Tables Pulling Their Weight?

After pickup, I got the tables back to the warehouse, where they’ll probably sit for a few months. Looking at their numbers:

  • 2024 Revenue: $444

  • 2025 Revenue (so far): $1,296

Not a ton of data, but worth keeping an eye on. It’s tough to evaluate single items since everything works together to make an event, but staying vigilant never hurts.

Calling It at 80%

I didn’t have much left in the tank after that. Still operating at about 80%, so I took the win and wrapped up early to run some personal errands before jumping into afterschool activities with the kids.

Some days, that’s enough.

On to the next one! 🚀
